To me, the word “blog” conjures up images from 2004. Low rise jeans, Tumblr, and sparkly eye shadow…. My mom’s Live Journal community, and screen names (mine was bluetraveler13).
Like so many aspects of my childhood that I thought were gone forever (Tamagotchis, flip phones, and DVDs), blogs are apparently a thing again! Or they never went away? Either way, as a creative who communicates well through the written word, I am HERE for it!
So welcome to Quintessence Photography! Maybe you know me, maybe you don’t. I’m glad you’re here either way. My name is Sarah and it’s my goal to get folks in my community thinking about photography in a different way than has been drilled into us by the cell phone companies.
Yes, it’s wicked cool that we all have a camera in our pocket. Photography is accessible to everyone, and we are the most photographed generations for sure.
BUTTTTTTT….. I would argue that “more” and “easier” doesn’t always equal “better”. Just this morning I was chatting with someone who shared they get overwhelmed by their camera roll. When we all carry a camera in our pocket, it can be a lot of pressure to not miss a single moment. To do SOMETHING with those….thousands…..of photos sitting in the cloud.
We ARE the most photographed. My question is, will those photographs stand the test of time? I don’t believe that electronic storage is reliable. Media changes and becomes obsolete, hardware crashes, and phones die or get lost. Cloud accounts aren’t inherited. Real life, printed photographs are.
THAT’S why I do things differently. Time is fleeting, and our children and grandchildren deserve more than an image on a screen to remember you and your bond by.
